The Leather Handled Tote    ~ Saturday 26th March or Sunday 3rd July 2022

Materials :£20.00

The Tote is a timeless bag that looks smart and elegant, whilst being simple to make. It’s perfect for beginners as it has no fiddly closures or curves, but will introduce you to some basic bag making techniques including how to sew a zipped pocket into the lining.  You will receive full written instructions and a pattern to take away with you along with free entry to the closed Facebook Stitch-a-long Group, where you will find further tips and tricks, video tutorials, a bonus pattern for adding a recessed zip top and lots of help and inspiration.

The bag features a roomy interior, reinforced base with optional bag feet, leather handles and optional matching buckle.  You will need to bring half a metre of an outer fabric (tweed, upholstery weight, canvas) and half a metre of a lining fabric (quilt weight cotton, lawn) but if your fabric requires pattern matching it would be sensible to bring a metre if you can.  We will provide everything else, including interfacing, interlining, leather handles etc.

You will also need your regular domestic sewing machine (which you should be confident in threading and using to a basic level) scissors, pins and matching thread. Please bring a zipper foot for your machine if you have one and quilters clips if you own them. Don’t worry if not, pins will be fine.

The Plumpton Pouch  ~  Saturday 28th May 2022

Materials : £14.50

The Plumpton is a versatile little bag, like a cosmetics case, but useful for all sorts of other things as well. Perfect for filling with treats and giving away, or keeping for yourself for make up, essential oils, sewing kit… the list is endless. It has a zipped top and a wire frame which gives it a distinctive shape and wide opening so you can easily see what’s inside.  In this workshop you will learn how to create either a two tone outer, or a simple appliqué design, how to insert a zip and how to fully line your bag for a neat and professional finish.

You will need half a metre of outer fabric (we won’t use all of it, but this allows for pattern matching/placement, so best to be on the safe side) and the same of a lining fabric.  Please also bring your sewing machine in good working order, your sewing kit and machine’s zipper foot and matching thread.

We will provide all other materials including the frame, zip, interfacing and interlining.   This workshop is suitable for beginner sewers, but you should be able to use your sewing machine’s basic functions (threading, winding a bobbin, straight stitch)

Typically Emma's courses run with around 6 students.

Important information re: What to Bring to all Hole House Bag Making Courses:   Please bring your materials charge as detailed above. Students will each need to bring a sewing machine that is in good working order and with which they are familiar. Also, matching thread, fabric scissors, pins, ruler and a hand sewing needle are also helpful. You should also have a zipper foot for your machine in addition to a regular foot and you will need to know how to change your machine feet before you arrive. It's very important to be familiar with your machine and know how to thread it up/ change and refill the bobbin etc etc. before you arrive.
