A two day course with Dave Harter whittling your own beautiful Bird

During this 2 day course Dave will teach you traditional hand carving, whittling, skills, using craft knives and other specialist hand tools provided to enable you to complete a lovely carved bird over the two days. You can make the feet , the display base and have a go at pyrography too.

Arriving in a large van weighed down with 3 workbenches Alister brings a full set of wood carving tools for each student, plenty of resources and pieces of hardwood to choose from...sycamore, ash, oak, birch. Many people opt for house name boards but other items are carved as well; animals, numbers and sayings. Anything is possible - time allowing - in the day.

Over this busy one day course you will together learn how to build a cob pizza oven and so take the knowledge home with you to recreate your very own outdoor pizza oven in your own garden. Starting with an existing plinth you will prepare, level and install the fire brick base and learn all about the importance of materials to use and insulation levels.

This is a wonderful opportunity to make your own personal woven rush bag in a day,
using the native common bulrush (Scirpus Lacustris). working on wooden blocks,
you will learn how to weave this wonderfully supple material using techniques common to basketry, to create a unique bag to use and treasure. You can choose variations on handle length etc.
