Intro to Pen and Wash
A busy and creative day with Margaret Jarvis exploring the delights of Pen and Wash
This medium can also be known as 'Watercolour & Ink'. This day will touch on colour mixing and using watercolours and it combines the subtle variable nature of the watercolour wash with finer detail picked out in black ink pen, allowing the artist different effects in shading and textures.

Lyn will teach you how to employ loose watercolour techniques.

Roman capitals are the most important letter form in the history of writing, monumental and impressive in their Trajan form. But they are also capable of almost infinite variation from tall, thin and austere to small, chubby and friendly. Over these four sessions we will learn or revise the traditional form and then explore variations and weights through playing with textural exercises.

Contemporary calligraphy is based on the writing of scribes working from the 5th century AD right up to the Renaissance. In this workshop we will study the writing of a 10th century scribe, learning a script called The Foundational Hand. You will learn the forms of the letters, how to space them and how to use the broad-edged pen.

Paint, print and stitch a canvas with Kay Leech
A lovely day with Kay being guided through the process pf creating using paint, then print,and stitch. Working in mixed media you will create a picture based on flowers, you can bring your own image or use one of the ones provided for inspiration.
You will paint the background directly onto calico and then add layers with simple stencils and print blocks that you have created. Finally you will add stitch which can be machine and or hand embroidery and embellish with beads and buttons.

My work is based upon the abstracts around me ~ rivers, fells and coast. I use a free and partly abstracted approach, sometime more abstract, sometimes more representational. Colour mood and atmosphere inspire me to play with texture and paint surfaces. I have recently exhibited 'Waterways' a theme exploring coasts and rivers'.
