Discovering 'Appliqué & Stitch' Freehand Machine Embroidery with Sarah Ames
This course may be up a flight of stairs. We can help you with your machine etc. if it is.
Freehand machine embroidery is among the favourite of techniques in the crafting world, it's easy, quick, effective and produces a great range of results. Your day with Sarah will teach you all the basic skills you need to use freehand machining on a variety of projects.
Sarah will come with a host of ideas for you as well as some templates you can use if you feel unsure about your design. Please bring along any reference materials that inspire you, such a books or magazine pictures that can be traced etc You will need to bring a sewing machine that you are familiar with how to thread, in good working order that you

Kindly note there will be a materials charge payable directly to the tutor on the day, of approx £5 depending on the materials used.. Typically this course runs with around 8 students.
Please bring: Please can you bring your own working sewing machine with feed dogs that can be dropped. Please ensure your machine is in good working order and that you are familiar with how to thread the machine/ have the instruction booklet. We do have a couple of spare machines available- – please ask when you book) This course may be up a flight of stairs. We can help you with your machine etc. if it is.
Also bring a selection of threads and fabric scraps. Some sketch paper and pencils (nothing fancy - just for planning) Picture/photo for inspiration/ reference or a starting point. I will bring extra fabric scraps and base fabrics etc.

About the Artist Sarah is a Textile Artist working just outside the Lake District National Park in West Cumbria, her surrounding landscapes inspire much of her work. She sews from a lovely studio (a renovated summer house) in the garden, using appliqué and free-machine embroidery to create a range of contemporary, functional and decorative textile pieces. I have a BA and MA in Contemporary Applied Arts from my studies at the University of Cumbria and am also a qualified teacher.
