Painting a Looser Botanical in Watercolour with Lyn Evans - with an optional hint of Christmas :)
This Looser Watercolours course is one of Lyn's most popular - so despite the time of year, she will concentrate on this theme and students can choose whether they wish to give their painting choices a festive slant , or not! We have plenty of holly and berries available on site in the garden.
Lyn likes to paint her watercolours largely from life, choosing blooms which will stay open for a couple of days. She likes interesting shapes so Iris, Lilies and Tulips feature largely in her work. Of course sometimes she uses a photograph, as flowers like peonies have a habit of exploding into life when you least expect it and its better to capture a required image in such cases.
Lyn will teach you how to employ loose watercolour techniques, allowing the pigment and water combination to work their own magic without to much interference being necessary and also using other tools, such as pens, inktence pencils, watercolour pencils, salt and twigs to be used along side your paints can also be used to obtain the beautiful effects from the watercolour.
At the end of the day everyone should have at lease one lovely piece of work to take home. During the morning, Lyn will teach, step by step, the techniques she employs and builds on for different effects - and although some basic experience of watercolours is preferred, it is by no means essential, especially as the painting style is relaxed and loose. Students will need to provide thei own materials as outlined below.
Sat 30 Nov 2024 (new date) .....Sunday 13th July 2025
Typically this course runs with around 10-12 students. Suitable for all abilities including beginners.
Please bring - Watercolour paper, (140 lb /300 gsm. or heavier) Watercolours, palette, brushes, black ink (Waterproof if possible), a couple of dip pens, some INKTENCE STICKS if you have some and any flowers, berries etc. or maybe photos of a bunch of flowers.
Below are a selection of Lyn's painting and some of her students.About the Artist I have painted throughout most of my life, from my years at Sunderland Art College to the present day, I’m inspired mostly by the more unusual colours of nature. The early morning or late evening light, particularly during the Autumn months, is a favourite. I paint in oil, pastel and watercolours, each one bringing a different quality to the work. So often it is the subject that will dictate the medium used. Pastel is unsurpassed for colour and texture while oils excel in quality and the ability to move or blend.
Watercolour, with its more delicate character, is ideal for the beautiful misty days that we have in plenty in Cumbria.I paint everything and anything but landscape is my first love.So the countryside in which I live and the quality of light enjoy are present in all my work. My influences are Chien Chung Wei, the Taiwanese watercolourist, Iain Stewart, the Scottish watercolourist (both of whom I have painted with) and Casey Klahn the American pastelist.
