From Fragments to Flowers: A Foxglove in Mosaic with Una Aynsley

Come and spend a lovely day with Grasmere's Una Aynsley, creating a beautiful mosaic foxglove.

A totally absorbing and meditative craft creating something beautiful and durable. Una has a large selection of natural materials, glass and ceramic tiles. You will be taught how to cut and select them and how to lay them to create the best effect.

Una says 'I will demonstrate the process and offer as much help as you need”.

We will cut the materials in buckets of water to reduce dust and flying debris but gloves, glasses, aprons are also all provided.

There is a lot of pre-cut material available too, so if your mobility is restricted there will be a lot of material for you to use.

About the Artist    Una has lived all around the world and been involved in lots of art disciplines. She lived in Hong Kong until her mid 20’s working for HK’s top art galleries and auction houses and graduated from UEA with a degree in Art History and Architecture. At the weekends and holidays she was a self taught, commissioned mural painter painting many schools and private homes. Una also lived in the US where she attended courses at the Art Students League and Parsons school of design in New York. In Dubai, she illustrated 3 top selling children’s books and continued to paint murals for private clients. Una joined Rachel Davies mosaic membership for a year and participated in the monthly prompts in 2022. It began a passion for mosaics which led to her taking an advanced mosaic course in Ravenna, Italy with Kokomosaico in 2024. Ravenna changed her mosaic making and understanding of it as an art form. It has 8 UNESCO world heritage monuments for Early Christian and Byzantine mosaics and throughout the city has the most advanced, contemporary and also traditional mosaic studios and galleries. Unconventional materials are commonly used in the contemporary mosaic artistic practice and it was this that has most influenced Una's style.

Una intends to go back to Ravenna soon….in the meantime she continues to experiment, use new materials , improve her practice and bring this fantastic art form to as many people as she can.
