Join Sarah for a one day Leaded Stained Glass taster course, design and make a beautiful leaded mirror.  

 An opportunity to dip your toe into and try this intensive one day Stained Glass taster day with Sarah making a leaded stained glass mirror.

Sarah will have some pre-prepared designs ready for you and there will be a choice of coloured glass along with some pre cut panels. At this stage she will explain the various considerations of creating a stained glass panel.   You will also have a go at cutting some of the glass yourself and learn safe cutting techniques, before then  carefully leading up the mirror according to the design. To complete your piece you will then finish by soldering everything together and finally cleaning and polishing using demonstrated techniques.

You will leave with your own bespoke stained glass mirrored panel.

Please bring:  If appropriate, don’t forget a good pair of glasses to enable close detailed work. All equipment and tools will be provided. Old shirt to work in. Thin disposable gloves. Kindly note there will be a £18 materials charge payable directly to the tutor on the day. Typically this course runs with around 8 students. Suitable for all abilities.

A health and safety briefing will be given and the use of safety equipment (provided) will be required. Lead, lead solder and the fumes are toxic substances both to handle and to breathe in. Pregnant women are advised not to handle lead or breathe in fumes. PLEASE DO NOT WEAR OPEN-TOED SANDALS during this summer course. 

About the artist: Sarah Walkley trained as a Stained Glass artist in Siena, Italy with Vetrate Artistiche Toscana 1993-1994. She worked with Stained Glass Artist, Matthew Lloyd Winder on her return to the UK for a year before setting up her own studio in North London. Two years later she returned to her home town of Kendal and set up Northern Lights Stained Glass, which celebrated its 20th anniversary last year. Sarah creates Stained Glass for homes, schools, businesses and churches and has completed several commissions in Italy as well as new windows for Kendal Parish Church, St.Marks, Natland, and Barnard Castle School Chapel. She also restores Stained Glass and recent restoration work can be seen at Kendal Parish Church, Holy Trinity, Ulverston, Casterton Church and URC, Grange, amongst others. Sarah has been teaching classes in her own studio for the past 20 years in Stained Glass, Fused Glass, copper foiling and Glass painting. alkley trained as a Stained Glass artist in Siena, Italy with Vetrate Artistiche Toscana 1993-1994.
