Painting Boats on the Water in Pen and Wash ~ with Roy Simmons ... Beginners and intermediates.
Another inspiring and fun day with Roy Simmons, who will guide you through the intracacies of Pen and Wash whilst creating some lovely art - or help you extend your existing skills.
This is a way of painting using waterproof pen that is then enhanced with watercolour. Using my methods you will find this is a very enjoyable way of capturing a scene. Don't worry if you think you “can't draw a straight line”, we don't want straight lines!
We will look at various ways of painting using this medium, by producing 3 simple studies. Roy will paint a boat from the front (using the camera and large screen system, talking as he goes and advising the group on colours and mixing. brush techniques and each student will paint along too - so the group starts with a step by step technique. The outline is roughly traced out from the photo (this course is about painting techniques, and not How to Draw)
It's always amazing to see the variety of the pieces that are produced, all impressive and all different! Students will then choose from other water themed photos (which you can trace) to paint a second and maybe even third piece. A really fun day and always with some lovely results
By all means bring an A4 photograph of your favourite boat/dinghy/yacht on the water and you can paint this in the afternoon. Sails or no sails- both will work.
Roy will provide all materials and instruction, you will take home a mounted painting at the end of the day.
