Make a simple, versatile pattern to flatter your figure,  choose from either a bodice/tunic pattern  or Trousers  or alterations to Collars and Sleeves  - styled uniquely to you. 

TUNIC workshop - see 2022 date below    Make a simple tunic shape pattern to suit your figure type. This is a one day course for a small number of people where you get step by step instructions to create a very basic simple tunic pattern, from which you can use as the basis for other tops and dresses in any fabric, no button holes, no zips - just simple creative fun, with lots of suggestions and advice on further adaptions Pattern Cutting specifics, any rolls of brown paper or lining wallpaper and paper scissors will be useful but some paper will be provided. 

Collars and Sleeves  (Tunic adaption)  2022  - this is a follow on session to the basic TUNIC workshop...

‘Join in a session to create a perfectly fitting sleeve. With tips on perfect insertion and time for at least one adaption.’Please bring along blocks or patterns, you may have made or enjoy working with previously. We will be drafting and developing a couple of very simple collar styles to fit your patterns. Contact tutor in advance if there are particular needs. If you have any draphting equipment bring it along. Also a tailor’s dummy is useful for this workshop although there will be a couple in the studio to use on the day.    Please make sure you bring your existing block pattern with you. 

TROUSERS workshop -  see 2022 date below   Make a simple trouser pattern to suit your figure type. This is a one day course for a small number of people where you get step by step instructions to create a very basic simple trouser pattern, from which you can adapt for shorts. cut offs etc. If time allows lots of suggestions /advice on further adaptions Pattern Cutting specifics, any rolls of brown paper or lining wallpaper and paper scissors will be useful but some paper will be provided. 
We also provide pattern masters, tapes, rulers and pencils. Don't worry about lack of experience this is the first and most simple of basic shapes. If you enjoy the process - we can work on more complex projects later.

Maggi is particularly interested in helping people understand their body shape and learn to modify dressmaking patterns accordingly. She will encourage you to work with your own figure type to create stylish looks and perhaps act as a catalyst for change and allow you to re-frame the way you view yourself and your body. The second session will help you to begin simple pattern cutting, using a fabric of your choice in a very simple tunic shape.

The Collars and Sleeves adaptation pattern cutting      Tuesday 2nd August 2022

The Trouser Pattern    Tuesday 11th October 2022

Typically this course runs with around 8 students. No additional material charges are applied.

Please bring: Paper scissors, Long rulers, Set Squares or right angle equipment. Pencil sharpener, Rubber,  little notebook, calculator or mobile phones e.t.c- other equipment is always helpful.  Also, you can bring a garment that really suits or fits you well, if you wish. Additionally, you can bring a garment that does not fit well as if time allows the tutor can alter these to flatter your figure.  Please remember to wear suitable clothing in which to be measured in.

 

About the Artist  Maggi is a fashion consultant and illustrator based in Cockermouth, previously she was in charge of Creative Design for Fashion BA Hons at the University of Central Lancashire and specialised in Haute Couture, which included Pattern Cutting, and Fashion Design, she also ran the Contemporary Applied Arts BA Hons course at University of Cumbria teaching Millinery, Pattern Cutting and Textiles. Consequently she is more than qualified to answer your fashion and dressmaking questions.
