'Introduction to Photography' ... a Beginners' Course in the Swallow Barn with Photographer and Teacher, Danielle Ledbury
Finding your way around a new or first camera can be overwhelming, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, exposure, white balance, depth of field, composition can all be a lot to learn. This five week course will provide you with all the essential foundations in photography.
Photography courses with Danielle are fun and practical, taught through bite sized exercises that illustrate each element of your camera and how to construct impressive images using both camera functions and creative compositional techniques. Each session we will cover a different element and walk you through the process of how to use it. This course is aimed at people who are beginners in photography looking to build confidence and understanding of how to use their camera.
The Swallow Barn is the new Quirky Workshop studio, renovated during the summer of 2020 and now providing well spaced single table seating for students, along with a camera to live stream all tutor demonstrations projected onto a large screen at the front. This means students can observe close up tutor work from the safety of their seats.
Question from a recent attendee of 'Beginners' Introduction to Photography One Day Course'
Having attended Danielle’s Introduction to Photography full day course in June, could you please advise me if the forthcoming 5 morning sessions in Oct/Nov are going to cover the same information or will be in more depth.
Answer from tutor, Danielle .......
For the weekly course there will be some crossover of information from the 1 day workshop particularly in the first week. But the ethos of the course will be a little different, there will be more of a focus and time towards creative approaches to tasks, sharing work and discussions. Each week together with the main skills we will cover there will be a different theme and then at the start of the following week we will show works created towards that theme and discuss before moving onto the next one.
The one day course is quite a quick high load of information to try and give the best possible entry into photography. Where as the longer course will be more like a club and allow for a lot more creative challenge and group discussions, analyzing one or two techniques a week in more depth, allowing for more embedding of the skills.
Wk1 – Introduction to photography and camera functions.
Wk2 – Exposure, understanding light and Composition.
Wk3– Depth of field, focusing and equipment choices.

Throughout the course you will be set mini tasks and have opportunity to discuss your work with others. There will be lots of opportunity throughout to ask questions and 1-2-1 support.
