 'Introduction to Photography' ... a Beginners' Course in the Swallow Barn with Photographer and Teacher, Danielle Ledbury

Finding your way around a new or first camera can be overwhelming, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, exposure, white balance, depth of field, composition can all be a lot to learn. This five week course will provide you with all the essential foundations in photography.

Photography courses with Danielle are fun and practical, taught through bite sized exercises that illustrate each element of your camera and how to construct impressive images using both camera functions and creative compositional techniques. Each session we will cover a different element and walk you through the process of how to use it. This course is aimed at people who are beginners in photography looking to build confidence and understanding of how to use their camera.

The Swallow Barn is the new Quirky Workshop studio, renovated during the summer of 2020 and now providing well spaced single table seating for students,  along with a camera to live stream all tutor demonstrations projected onto a large screen at the front. This means students can observe close up tutor work from the safety of their seats.

Wk1 – Introduction to photography and camera functions.  Wk2 – Exposure, understanding light and Composition.  Wk3– Depth of field, focusing and equipment choices.   Wk4- Photography on location.  Wk5 – Final review and basic editing

Throughout the course you will be set mini tasks and have opportunity to discuss your work with others.  There will be lots of opportunity throughout to ask questions and 1-2-1 support.

Typically, this course runs with 6-8 students. On registration full course info will be sent across.

Please bring: You will need a camera, tripod, memory card, fully charged battery and USB lead (if you have one) and anything else you personally want to use. If you don’t have something please don’t worry, contact Danielle to ask any questions prior to the course on equipment you may have.

About the Artist   This lovely local photographer has over 8 years experience working as a qualified photography teacher and freelance photographer for individuals, companies and weddings. After completing her degree in photography she set up and ran various photography courses in schools. Danielle has also curated photographic exhibitions for Photography festivals together with exhibiting her own work. Her own work often looks at narratives linked to place, she self-published a photobook on the mysterious Government facility ‘Site 3’ and is currently working on a new photobook based here in the lake district.
