** £20 off final spaces ** A Green Man for the Garden ~ with Mark Bradley

** £20 off final spaces ** A Green Man for the Garden ~ with Mark Bradley

Spend a lovely Day with Mark creating a characterful 'Green Man for the Garden'  in Stoneware.

A new take on this very popular course we have run in the past :)

Join Mark and create a lovely Green Garden plaque ~ as scary / bumbling / friendly as you wish.  Mark will show you how with patient guidance and expertise.

These sculptures of a face surrounded by or made from leaves where branches or vines possibly sprouting from the mouth or nostrils etc and maybe bearing flowers or fruit. Such sculptures in bygone days were commonly used as a decorative architectural ornament, frequently found in carvings on both secular and ecclesiastical buildings.

Kindly note there will be a materials charge payable directly to the tutor on the day, of £35 for the materials used and the 2 firings required. Typically this course runs with around  8 students. Suitable for Beginners and intermediates

10.00am – 4.00pm
£85  Lunch included
Material Charges : £35

Dates for this course - see the table below to book:

Sunday 31st May 2026  ~ Thu 13 August 2026

Please bring:  Some leaves! ** for the May course please collect approx 20-30 varying sized hardwood leaves (Oak works really well and can be preserved using Glycerin - please contact us for the best method)- or pick fresh as they should be out by late May.   Oak/Beech are best. There will be a £35 materials cost payable to the tutor on the day which will include the clay, the firing cost  multiple glazes and 'fettling'.  We will notify you when your piece is ready for collection from Greystoke.

We recently ran a Green Man trial course with Mark (Feb 26) and here are some of the results  - some of the students chose to paint theirs with acrylic paints back at home after firing-  otherwise a rustic glaze is available-  or a simple clear glaze, or just biscuit fired out of the kiln.

About the tutor: Mark is a watercolour artist, and paints mainly landscapes due to living in Cumbria and spending time in Scotland. He tends to be representational, but aspire to being impressionistic. Mark also throw pots and creates animal and bird sculptures, and watercolour cards, all of which are for sale at Interlude ceramics at Brougham Hall, near Penrith.  Also at Viridian Gallery in Keswick.
